Catching Dawn, inspired by "Here Now (Intro)"

Inspired by Snoh Aalegra’s “Here Now (Intro),” I created a close-up drawing of a girl in blue pen, capturing a quiet moment of stillness, as if she’s lingering in a memory or on the edge of a feeling. The lyrics—“Even if we catch the sunrise, it’s only a moment passing us by”—remind me of those times when we realize, almost too late, that something important is slipping away. I wanted her expression to carry that bittersweet awareness, a look that says, “I’m here, but I know this won’t last.”
Using blue pen was a deliberate choice—it’s a color that can hold a lot of weight without feeling too heavy. I sketched her face slowly, letting the lines build up like layers of thought, as if she’s sitting with something too fragile to name. Her gaze is soft but intent, caught in the delicate balance between acceptance and regret, like someone who has watched many sunrises but feels the beauty of each one slipping away a little differently.
I remember a night that felt just like this—sitting with a close friend in the early morning, talking about our futures and the things we couldn’t quite put into words. The sky was still dark, but the first light was coming in, and for a few moments, it felt like time stopped. I think back to that memory whenever I listen to Aalegra’s words: *“Here now, here now, really know, really know quite why.”* This girl’s expression in my drawing is a reflection of that feeling—of being fully present but knowing that the moment is slipping away, and there’s nothing you can do to keep it.
This drawing became a way for me to hold onto that feeling, to honor the beauty of moments that pass too quickly to fully grasp. With each stroke of the pen, I hoped to capture the song’s theme—a quiet reminder that even if we can’t keep these moments, they still stay with us, coloring everything that follows.
